Contremporary:


Clean, straight lines and geometric shapes; marble, tile or sleek wood flooring; if carpeting is used, it would be a low pile commercial-grade, introduction of metals (steel, chrome) and glass; little or no trim and details, uncluttered furniture with smooth lines, good form high ceilings, open spaces and very little boundaries between living areas.  Contemporary is bold, sculptural and artistic, large abstract patterns.

 

Fireplace - Marble, tile, sleek, smooth finish, possibly no mantle

Color Palette - Clean clear colors, whites and neutrals punctuated by bold colors, cool tones are seen more than warm, black is often used to ground a contemporary décor.

 

Patterns - Abstract, geometrics, stripes, large & bold
